There was a server shutdown, but that was when aeria version was still up, after they closed aeria, vendetta reopened this one fresh new with no previous accounts, after a little while they noticed some people taking advantage of an explot (i think it involved auction house or smth) and they reset the accounts again. But that was far more than 2 years ago and it doesn't corespond to your case.
