MeidoGhoul Posted January 19 Report Posted January 19 So, I’ve been trying to get this game to work on and off for over a year now and I’m finally deciding to just ask and see if someone knows what the hell is up. I have verified the files multiple times, completely updated Windows 10 and all drivers, restarted over and over, have the entire folder and .exe’s themselves as exceptions in Avast, even tried turning protections off entirely to verify files and start the game, tried every compatibility mode, have both exe’s set to open as administrator, disabled the admin pop up just in case that might’a been interfering, got both dll’s and every single C++ and DirectX download necessary and yet when I log in and press “Start Game” the launcher tells me the log in was successful, closes, I hear my computer’s fans go nuts and then… nothing at all. I even checked and there’s nothing in Task Manager so it isn’t like it’s trying to load in the background or something, it just doesn’t seem to exist at all lol. Does anyone know if there’s anything else I might be missing here? Thanks in advance! Edit: I tried changing my password to remove all the symbols just in case, and that didn’t work either, plus both new and old passwords are/were 15 characters long to avoid the cutting off issue. I also have been trying both lowercase username and as it is here on the forums, but the same issue happens with both so I don’t think it’s a log in issue. LAST EDIT: GO TO THE END OF THE THREAD AND FOLLOW xF4T4Lx’s ADVICE! HOPEFULLY IT WORKS FOR YOU TOO!! 🙏

Unfortunately there were no error messages at all which is why I’m so stumped by this, and I’m not sure about missing files, but my SBV folder is 10.7GB containing 31,415 files and 2,478 folders. Norleras Posted January 19 Report Posted January 19 (edited) Based on what you're describing, SB crashed during the loading process. This is something that just about everyone deals with. Some more frequently than others. From what I understand, this is usually driven by a background application, driver, etc. interfering with SB. One thing I noticed you didn't mention was the firewall. If you're using Avast, you're either probably using the Avast Firewall or the Windows Firewall. Which one are you using? Oh, well I’m glad I’m not alone in this problem at least! I have Avast Firewall, and I checked that it’s definitely off when I disable Avast shields through the taskbar. Despite not really thinking it would do anything, I updated my AMD drivers since I completely forgot about that, updated Java for the same reason, and updated Armoury Crate for, again, the same reason. After this I disabled a lot of unnecessary startup items, then restarted my computer, closed as many apps as I could and still nothing happened when pressing play. I’m thinking of trying with a virtual machine tomorrow, though I’m not very hopeful as this is the last thing I tried last time to no avail, despite it being a fresh install. I can’t exactly remember what OS I used as this was months back and I’ve cleaned my computer of old files since then, but this time I’ll go with XP, matching the recommended compatibility setting. This is very likely going to show my ignorance big time, but could it be unavoidable connection issues? I’m Australian and the memes about internet problems are very accurate lol. Just odd if that was the case as I can play newer games pretty well as long as the settings aren’t all on high or ultra, and the OG Scarlet Blade ran perfectly on a much worse computer. Thank you and I’m sorry for taking a while to respond!

If you are trying to connect from Australia, before going for a full VM, perhaps try a VPN first. It could be the connection route your internet is taking.
Norleras Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 (edited) Another thing I'd suggest is that if you have Avast Firewall deactivated, put SB and as many of its files you can on the Windows Firewall exceptions. If the Avast Firewall is down, chances are the Windows Firewall is active. Edited January 20 by Norleras

I tried ProtonVPN’s free servers (US, Japan and Netherlands) alongside closing as many apps as possible and unfortunately it didn’t work, but I was definitely thinking it might for a bit there since looking for one triggered a BUNCH of memories of me needing to use Hotspot Shield for the original Scarlet Blade lmao. It may end up just being the VPN I went with so I’ll test a few others once I get the chance. 17 hours ago, Norleras said: Another thing I'd suggest is that if you have Avast Firewall deactivated, put SB and as many of its files you can on the Windows Firewall exceptions. Kinda annoying how that’s even a possibility tbh, but I double checked and it doesn’t seem to re-enable the default Firewall, though I did still add as many files I could just in case there’s some weird shit going on. Thank you both for the help, even though I’m very sure this is a nostalgia thing I may just have to give up on if the VM doesn’t work lol.
xF4T4Lx Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Here comes your hero without a cape Search YT for how to enable or disable DEP in W10 1st option is “Deactivate” 2nd option is “Activate” you have it by default in the 1st option, activate the 2nd option or the other way around if by default you have the 2nd option you must put it in the 1st option 1st option you don't need to do anything just reboot. 2nd option you have to add 2 SBV game files “SB and SBLauncher” apply and accept you will be prompted to reboot, this is where you reboot. If it works yell at me “you're my hero”, if it doesn't work yell at me “jump off a bridge and break your spine” ;v Open English 1

You have earned the title of My Hero, thank you so goddamn much!!! Now I don’t gotta be sad I can’t play it again anymore LOL SO, for anyone else who may end up here, this is what I did and the settings I had when it worked: Type “Performance” in Windows Search > Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows > Data Execution Prevention > Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select: > enter both SBLauncher and ScarletBlade exes I didn’t need to have a VPN, didn’t need Avast turned off, and I have compatibility mode set to Windows XP (Service Pack 3) :’D EDIT: I have the dreaded “Mother has disconnected you” problem, have gotten a paid VPN (Windscribe) so I can connect as close to the servers’ location as possible and it’s still happening, so RIP me I guess lol. I’m used to logging in over and over by now so I’m not too bothered by it but obviously it’s still not ideal so I’ll likely ask for help from someone with Windscribe at a later date, as I looked through the forums and there are a few who use/used it with no issues, but for now I’m just happy to be playing again tbh! EDIT EDIT: I just decided to try and see if mobile phone data works better and it totally does!! I haven’t gotten kicked off in a good while! So if anyone is struggling with the connection issues and has access to a suitable data plan I’d HIGHLY recommend doing so. Just obviously if it isn’t unlimited monitor that shit lmfao. 1 1
Madox Posted May 23 Report Posted May 23 Necroing the thread, but thanks for the help. Last year I wanted to test the game with another person, and the game would open for them, but it refused to work for me. I had tried everything except changing the DEP settings, since I always forget about that option. At the time, I gave up on the game. Maybe this time I could stick around. To anybody who has the same issue, I can confirm that the solution posted by F4T4L works flawlessly. 1
