Hope we can enjoy the game with all the community!

  2. Pets, or NosMates, are a key part of NosTale gameplay!

They can be used as tanks in PvE, help you with stuns and various debuffs and some of them can even give you different buffs while they're with you!

Disclaimer: Location of items like event trainers or even rates of success/failure/downgrade could be changed in the future with custom patches, the guide contains the original server informations and will be modified if any change is applied in the VGN server.

    2133i43.jpg20121103-0-skaghonat.jpg

In the red box you can see the effects the pet can apply, they can apply on each attack received/dealt, meaning that in this case Fibi could mitigate attacks received by 90% 10 times in a row or keep someone frozen forever~

The right screenshot is an example of Pet buff, not many pets give buffs so it's usually better to get a pet with a buff you like when choosing your main little helper.

In the green box we can see the reason of this guide! Attack and defence levels.

Unlike for equipment or specialists, pet attack and defence levels can only be increased with special "training dummies".

Pet training can only be done in your miniland.

The attack level can increase by attacking said dummies a certain number of times depending on the attack level, while defence can increase by receiving a certain amount of hits from them, depending on the defence level.

There are 3 kinds of trainers:

Allenatore_di_NosMate.png Pet trainer, sold by Eva Energy in Nosville, they have low attack and low HP.

    Stats:

    • They can survive for 610 seconds if not attacked.
    • They can attack 430 times before death (if not attacked).
    • They have very low HP, so they're mostly indicated to increase Defence levels.

Allenatore_Diplomato.png Advanced pet trainer, can be obtained from all monsters from act 2 onwards or obtained as quest rewards.

    Stats:

    • Their attack and HP values are higher than the base trainer, making them perfect for attack levels training.
    • They can survive for 2400 seconds (if not attacked).
    • They can attack 4000 times (if not attacked).

And finally, event trainers, their stats are similar to the Advanced trainer, but a failure in training with them won't decrease the attack/def levels of the pet regardless of the outcome, so they're the best bet to try and upgrade your pet Def levels to +8/+9.

They can be obtained in events such as the summer pirate raid or the easter event raid and considering their usefullness they're usually pricey on the in game market.

    Now some data about training!

When training a pet there are 3 possible outcomes:

    • Success, the attack or defence level will be increased by 1
    • Failure, nothing will happen and the hit counter will be reset.
    • Downgrade, the attack or defence level will be decreased by 1.

(Note: Precise % of success/failure/downgrade are unknown but the chance of downgrade increases noticeably after + 5)

Depending on the statistic level, the pet has to hit/get hit a certain number of times before knowing the outcome:

    • +1 : 50 hits
    • +2 : 100 hits
    • +3 : 150 hits
    • +4 : 200 hits
    • +5 : 250 hits
    • +6 : 300 hits
    • +7 : 350 hits
    • +8 : 400 hits
    • +9 : 450 hits
    • +10 : 500 hits

Note: The hit counter does not reset when you stop, for example if your pet has def +5 and was hit 180 times before you stopped, the next time you will need only 120 hits before knowing the outcome and resetting the hit counter.

    Training Strategies

    Attack:

    What to use:

    • Allenatore_Diplomato.png Advanced pet trainer
    • Low level pet (advised to train the pet attack at level 1 or lower than 20 since strong pets can deal lots of damage even at low levels).

Can't stress that enough, train your pet when his level is low or it's going to be painful later on, and the attack level can make a pretty huge difference when the pet level reaches 85/90.

    Strategy:

    • Get in the lower level of the miniland, where there is a lot of space, and keep the pet you want to train away from you.
    • Release a SINGLE advanced pet trainer and catch his aggro right away with skills that deal no damage, like the Warrior SP pull, the assassin smoke bomb or the holy mage skill that can hit only undead monsters, this way the trainer will start attacking you and the pet won't risk death at any time even if it's only level 1.
    • When you're sure the trainer is attacking you and you're as close as possible to the trainer, press f1/f3 to control the pet and start attacking the trainer with him. (If you're not close enough to the trainer there's a chance that the pet will get closer and get hit instead of you).
    • Patience and pop corns.
    • Repeat until you're satisfied with the pet attack level.

I advise stopping only when the pet attack reaches at least + 5/6, since as i said it's going to be really difficult to upgrade attack at levels higher than 60, a strong pet can 1/2hit even advanced trainers.

    Defence:

    What to use:

    • Allenatore_di_NosMate.png Basic pet trainer
    • High level pet, if the pet is still around level 50/60 it's still advised to have a mage/holy mage with you to heal him if needed since the poor little thing is going to get swarmed by trainers.

Defence level is the most important part since you're going to use your pet as a tank most of the time, but unlike attack, it's "easier" to increase defence, not because of success rates (they're the same for both stats) but because you can just spam a bunch of trainers, sit back and just wait for them to expire or stop when you reach the level you were going for.

Of course multiple trainers also means faster hits, aka more tries in less time.

    Strategy:

    • Move to the lower level of the miniland, where you have more space.
    • Move the pet in a spot far from the borders of the map (at least 1 or 2 cells).
    • Press S to put the pet in idle mode image.jpg, this way, he won't attack the trainers and stand still.
    • Move on the same cell of your pet and release 8/12 basic trainers, they will be released around you and attack the first pet they find in their range, so you will be sure that all of them will be attacking the pet. (Releasing 12 is possible but there's also the chance that some of them will move out of range, moving away other trainers and slowing down the process, so it's advised to use 8/9 at a time).
    • Sit back and relax, keep an eye on the chat to know when you succeed/fail/downgrade and kill all the trainers when you get to the defence level you wanted so you won't risk downgrading if they keep hitting the pet.

Considering defence level is more important and basic trainers are cheap, it's advised to take your pet defence to +7 and then wait for event trainers to try for +8/9.

Don't get frustrated if it keeps failing and just keep trying \o/ it's going to be worth the effort!

    Tips:

    1. It's not advised to go afk while training your pet, since there's the chance that you will succeed on a high stat level and then downgrade in the next one, so keep an eye on your pet!
    2. Upgrade your pet attack when his level is 1~10, it's not worth getting a pet to level 80 if it's attack is +0~4
    3. Upgrade your pet defence when his level is 65+ so he's not likely to die and lose the trainers aggro.

    Good luck with your pets!

  3. Other than job levels, upgrades and SLs there's a 4th way to boost your specialist cards even more, the perfection level.

    SPWindow.jpg

In the red box you can check the perfection progress.

In the green box you can check the stats obtained from the perfections upgrades.

Perfection max level is 100, you can upgrade the perfection level with different amounts of specialist specific gems and small amounts of gold at the Specialist Upgrade npc.

    Upgradewindow.jpg

When the upgrade is succesfull you will receive 1 point on a single RANDOM stat, meaning that you can't choose what to upgrade by yourself (getting + 20 def on an archer sp (╯ರ ~ ರ)╯︵ ┻━┻ )

1 point in a stat equals to:

    • Attack: 10 Attack
    • Defence: 10 Defence
    • Element: 1 Element
    • HP/MP: 100 HP/MP
    • Light resistance: +1%
    • Darkness resistance: +1%
    • Fire resistance: +1%
    • Water resistance: +1%

In case of failure the materials will still be consumed.

    Upgrade table:

    perfection.png

Upgrade materials and where to find them

Depending on the material, they can be found in raids, dropped from the monsters in the caligor entrance map in act 4 or traded for glacerus/draco raids guaranteed drop.

(NPCs names and maps names will be added/corrected when the server releases since they might be different from the Italian server)

Perfection level doesn't disappear when putting a card in a 100px-Carrello.png to sell/trade.

    Tips:

    1. Upgrading the perfection level can take a long time but it's definetly worth it in the long run!
    2. Start perfecting a specialist card only when you feel confident in the fact that you won't sell/trade the card, if you get to +20 perfection on a card +9 and then decide to sell it to buy the same card +13 but perfection +0 you will have to start from scratches!

  4. Hi! In this little guide i'll do my best to explain how Specialist card points work :D

Disclaimer: In this guide i won't talk about different builds for specialists, the point of the guide is just giving the reader a good knowledge about how many points a specialist card can get and what different amount of points in different stats can do.

Specialist points are earned by increasing the job level of the specialist card and by upgrading the specialist card.

Starting from level 21, the specialist card earns 3 SP points for each level, up to level 99, for a total of 237 points.

After level 21 the specialist card can be upgraded too, earning more points at each upgrade tier:

    • +1: 5 points
    • +2: 5 points
    • +3: 5 points
    • +4: 5 points
    • +5: 8 points
    • +6: 8 points
    • +7: 10 points
    • +8: 10 points
    • +9: 12 points
    • +10: 12 points
    • +11: 15 points
    • +12: 15 points
    • +13: 18 points
    • +14: 20 points
    • +15: 25 points

For a total of 173 bonus points on a +15 specialist card.

The maximum amount of point a specialist card can obtain is 410.

    Example: A 99+13 card

In order from top to bottom, the stats to upgrade are:

    Attack - Defence - Element - HP/MP

Each of the stats can be increased up to 100 for different amount of points depending on the current step.

     spcard.png

In the red box we can see the stat level.

In the green box we can see the SP points required for the next level.

In the yellow box we can see:  SP remaining / Total SP (In this case Total SP= 237 from job level + 128 from the upgrade)

In the blue box we can see the abilities unlocked from the stats upgrading.

The next tables will explain the cost point for each stat level and the abilities unlocked at each tier.

(I made those tables translating the stat names of the Italian server so the names may vary in the VGN server, i.e. Evasion could be Dodge and Accuracy could be Hit Rate, if that's the case i will modify the names right away when the game releases)

    Attack:

    atkfinal.png

    Defence:

    Deffinal.png

    Element:

    elefinal.png

    HP/MP:

    hpmpfinal.png

    Final part:

    Shells stats increase

Considering that the maximum amount of points on a 99+15 card is 410 and every stats requires 410 points to get to the step 100 an unexperienced player might think that you have to either spread points across the board or get a single stat to 100, but fortunately that is not the case.

    Weapon Shells!

Shells are divided in 5 tiers, in order of quality from lowest to highest they are:

Half shell, Complete shell, Special shell, PvP shell and finally Perfect shell.

Weapon shells can have special bonuses that increase specialists stat level, called SL, they apply on every specialist card you own the second you use the specialist.

Depending on the rarity tier of the shell, the increase can be as low as 3 and as high as 14, for example a r7 rune has higher chances of having a stat increase of 9-14 while a r5 rune has higher chances of having a stat increase of 4-9.

Stat increase can be divided in:

Attack SL: Increase the level of the Attack stat by X. Can be found in all shell tiers from r3 to r7.

Defence SL: Increase the level of the Defence stat by X. Can be found in all shell tiers from r3 to r7.

Element SL: Increase the level of the Element stat by X. Can be found in all shell tiers from r3 to r7.

Energy SL: Increase the level of HP/MP stat by X. Can be found in all shell tiers from r3 to r7.

And finally the best possible SL.

Global SL: Increase the level of ALL stats by X. Can be found only in r7 shells, and only from tier 2 to tier 5.

Global SL stats can vary from 7 to 9 levels.

SL stats work as a basic value, meaning they increase the stat level directly whitout affecting the specialist points consumption, and if they reach or surpass any ability unlocking step you will get the ability too.

For example, if you had a specialist with 88 points in attack and a shell on your weapon or secondary weapon with Attack SL 12, your specialist card attack would be 100, saving the points you would have spent to get the stat to 100 and giving you the opportunity to spread your build even more on the other stats.

Single stat effects stack with Global stats, meaning that if you had a SL8 hp/mp stat, a SL14 Element and a SL7 Global, the final stat level increase on your cards will be:

    Attack: 7 - Defence: 7 - Element: 21 - HP/MP: 15

    IMPORTANT:

SLs do not stack with an SL of the same effect.

    Example:

You can have a shell on your main weapon containing Attack, Element and HP/MP SLs and a shell on your secondary weapon containing a Global SL and an Element SL, but in this case only the highest value Element SL will be applied, they won't stack.

    Example 2:

You have a Global SL of 9 and an Attack SL of 7 on your main weapon, while on your secondary weapon you have a Global SL of 6 and an Attack SL of 14.

The specialist card would only obtain the Global SL 9 from your main weapon and the Attack SL 14 of your secondary weapon.

    Tips:

    1. It's usually best to get a Global SL on your secondary weapon, since you won't be using it as much as your main weapon, giving you the possibility to focus more on PvP effects on your main weapon.
    2. It's important to try and get SLs as high as possible for the stat/stats you're focusing on your build, having for example an atk SL 14 will help a lot if you want to take atk to 100, since the steps from 80 to 100 are the ones that cost the most points.
    3. When building your specialist focus on the unlocked abilities for each step instead of the base stat value increase, for example an archer would rather save points to get Attack to 90 and unlock the CDMG + 20% instead of stopping at 84 and investing points in something else for the base stats.

And that's it! I'll talk about specialist perfection level in my next guide since it's a whole different topic :D
