Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or Windows XP? Also, be sure to place the full folder as an exception in your anti-virus program.

The issue with that is, I cannot choose when the bg actually starts. The server decides that, and the most I can do is change its interval, and even then that barely works to change their schedule

Filo is mostly correct here. I have to do my best to ensure that all the battlegrounds across all levels dodge each other, mainly for the 50+ battlegrounds. So adding them every hour would be a bit of a challenge and cause some issues elsewhere like it has in the past.
